The Values That Drive Every Job at Shaw’s — Why We Work the Way We Do
Shaw’s has been a family business in North Wales since the 1950s. Here is what the team believes about garage work, and why it shapes every vehicle that comes through our doors.
It is easy for a garage to say it does quality work. The harder question is: what does that actually mean on a given day, with a given vehicle, for a customer who is unsure whether to trust the advice they are being given?
At Shaw’s, we have spent time being deliberate about answering that question. Not with a marketing statement, but with a set of values the team has shaped together — and that we hold each other to.
Where Shaw’s comes from

The Shaw’s team working through the business mission, vision, values and purpose. This is not a corporate exercise — it is a deliberate effort by a family business that has been in North Wales since the 1950s to be clear about what it stands for and what every member of the team commits to, every day.
Shaw’s Service Station has been operating in the area since the 1950s. The business has changed over the decades — two branches now (Kinmel Bay and Rhyl), a wider range of technical capability, modern diagnostic equipment, training and HEVRA certification — but the core of it has not changed: a family business that does mechanical work for the local community and wants to do it well.
What we actually believe
The values the Shaw’s team has settled on are not corporate language. They are three direct statements that apply to every job:
Do the job properly. Not close enough, not fast enough to move on to the next one, not with a substitute part that kind of fits. If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing correctly. This applies to a tyre puncture repair and to an engine rebuild in exactly the same way.
Give a sh*t. Care about the vehicle, the diagnosis and the outcome. Be interested in what is actually wrong, not just what the code says. Notice things that are not quite right even if they were not on the booking. Tell the customer about them. Follow through.
Don’t be a d*ck. To customers, to each other, to the people we work alongside. Respect that the person in front of us is trusting us with something important — their transport, their safety and their money. Behave accordingly.
What this looks like in practice
It means we call before doing additional work, not after. It means we explain what we found in plain language, not jargon designed to make a repair sound more complicated than it is. It means we recommend what the vehicle actually needs, not what adds the most to an invoice. It means if we make a mistake, we say so and we fix it.
It also means we invest in the equipment and training to actually do the job properly — because caring about the outcome and then not having the tools to achieve it is a contradiction. Our Rhyl branch carries HEVRA-certified EV and hybrid training. Our Kinmel Bay and Rhyl workshops use PicoScope and Autel diagnostic equipment. We are not doing this because it looks good. We are doing it because it is what the work requires.
